Q:Why does SecuTrans give out chip-card terminals for free of charge?

A: Chip-card, also called EMV, POS terminal is the highest standard payment technology which has been in production since almost 20 years ago. The United States merchants begin to adapt to the chip-card technology recently. To encourage the merchants to upgrade their POS terminals to chip-card ready, SecuTrans decided to offer 50 free terminals to merchants according to first-qualified-first-get policy.

Q:Why do I have to get a chip-card terminal? 

A: Since October 2015, Visa, Master Card and American Express has issued a ‘Liability Shift’ notice that when arguments (charge backs) happen, the one with lower technology will lose the battle. For example, if a customer use a chip-ready credit card ( it becomes more and more popular now) on a merchant’s non-chip POS terminal, in case there is any argument, the merchant will have bigger chance to lose the argument and her/his hard earned money. In order to protect your business(money), it’s better to implement chip-card POS as your earliest convenience.
